| COBRA is a federal law which requires that employers (who employ
20 or more employees on at least 50% of the working days during
the preceding calendar year) provide employees the option of continuing
their existing health, dental and/or vision coverage under circumstances
of termination of employment; reduction of hours below the minimum
required for eligibility; death of the employee; divorce/legal separation;
loss of dependent status under terms of the insurance contract;
Medicare entitlement; military reservist reactivation; or Chapter
11 bankruptcy proceedings - with premiums being paid by the employee.
Some states also have enacted their own COBRA laws.
